Florence in 48 Hours – Must See Sights and Hidden Gems

Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Florence proved to be a captivating destination that exceeded all expectations. Our two-day romantic escape in this enchanting city was a delightful blend of historic wonders, delectable cuisine, and unforgettable moments. From the cozy confines of San Giuliano Inn to the breathtaking views at Piazzale Michelangelo, Florence cast its spell, leaving us with cherished memories.

Day 1: Exploring the Heart of Florence

Accommodation at San Giuliano Inn: Our home away from home, the San Giuliano Inn, offered a warm and cozy retreat with a stunning view of the iconic Duomo. The recently renovated rooms and bathrooms added a touch of modern comfort, while the communal kitchen, stocked with coffee, beer, wine, and breakfast snacks, became a space where we spent memorable moments sharing travel stories with fellow travellers from around the world.

Main Square Wandering and Duomo Marvelling: The first day began with a leisurely stroll around the main square, where the magnificent Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, affectionately known as the Duomo, stood proudly. The awe-inspiring architecture left us speechless, setting the tone for the magical experiences that awaited.

Relaxing Afternoon at “View on Art Rooftop Bar”: We indulged in a relaxing afternoon at the “View on Art Rooftop Bar,” sipping on aperitini while soaking in panoramic views of the city. The perfect prelude to an exquisite lunch.

Lunch at I’ Girone De’ Ghiotti: There’s no better way to fall in love with a new city than to eat in a local restaurant amoungst the locals! A culinary highlight awaited us at I’ Girone De’ Ghiotti, where we savored the best chicken sandwich, complemented by the picturesque surroundings. The flavors were a symphony of delight, setting the bar high for the culinary journey ahead.

Evening Stroll and Gelato Indulgence: The evening unfolded with a leisurely stroll through iconic sites like Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, and Piazza del Duomo, punctuated by stops for delectable gelato. The city’s charm intensified as the moonlit Duomo became a mesmerizing spectacle, creating unforgettable moments that would linger in our hearts.

Dinner at Indian Palace: There’s one thing that we love to experiment with when travelling abroad, and that’s eating at Indian restaurants at least once! So of course we had to reserve dinner plans for a little taste of India! We chose to eat at a place called Indian Palace – the flavors were exceptional, making it one of the most memorable Indian meals in Italy. The night concluded with a moonlit wander around Piazza del Duomo, deepening our connection to Florence.

Day 2: A Day of Unplanned Bliss in Florence

Piazzale Michelangelo and a Rainbow Surprise: Originally planning a day trip to Pisa, we succumbed to the allure of Florence’s charms and headed uphill to Piazzale Michelangelo. The breathtaking views, coupled with an unexpected rainbow, created a magical start to the day, etching the memory of this shared experience in our hearts.

Afternoon at Uffizi Gallery and Tuscan Delights: The afternoon unfolded with an exploration of the Uffizi Gallery, immersing ourselves in art and history. The cultural journey continued with a delightful interlude of Tuscan wine and pizzas, adding a flavorful chapter to our Florence experience.

Souvenir Shopping and Romantic Dinner at Il Bottegone: Evening brought a leisurely shopping spree for unique souvenirs, capturing the essence of Florence. The day crescendoed with an upscale and romantic dinner at Il Bottegone, where we enjoyed fine cuisine overlooking the Duomo. Street musicians serenaded the night, creating a dreamy ambiance that lingered in our hearts.

Our two days in Florence unfolded as a symphony of experiences, blending history, gastronomy, and romance. From the charming accommodations at San Giuliano Inn to the unexpected delights of Piazzale Michelangelo, Florence left an indelible mark on our travelogue, ensuring that the memories crafted in this magical city endure as cherished tales of love and wanderlust.
