Modern Architectural Wonders to See Once in a Lifetime

With unique and modern building styles and purposes, there are many architectural wonders around the world that are an experience to see. This is a new kind of tourism that some people very much enjoy and make it a point to incorporate into their own ‘travel bucket list’.

Here are some of the architectural wonders to see once in a lifetime:

Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge

The Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge is the longest bridge in the world, reaching 164,800 meters in length. Completed in 2010, it is located between Shanghai and Nanjing in Jiangsu province, creating infrastructure necessary as it stretches over an area with waterways, major towns and cities, uneven terrain, and rice fields. It is located on the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed railway.

Tokyo Sky-Tree

Tokyo Sky-Tree is a skyscraper that opened to the public in May 2012. Visitors can spend time in the restaurant and at the observatory, though the skyscraper is primarily used for television and radio broadcast.

Singapore’s Green Skyscraper

In the center of Singapore you will find the Green skyscraper, designed by WOHA. The skyscraper consists of the ParkRoyal eco-friendly hotel with business offices located at the top. The ParkRoyal is no standard eco-friendly hotel either, it has self-sufficient sky gardens, terraces, green walls, water mirrors and more. This makes Singapore’s Green skyscraper both a modern architectural wonder to see as well as a stunning eco-friendly structure.

Cumulus Building

The Cumulus Building is a ‘curiosity center’ located in Danfoss Universe, a science museum park located in Nordborg. With its cloud-like roofscape, the shape of the building was inspired by the northern lights. Inside, you’ll see a black and white interior and accents only being the red cushions on the stairs and colorful exhibition props.

Denmark’s Urban Island

Denmark’s urban island is a modern answer to residential space. It is a complex with 476 homes, built by overlapping layers that make up an 8-shaped ground floor. Over 1700 m2 of green roofs are also incorporated into the urban island, making it a more sustainable residential complex as well.

The Petronas Towers

The PETRONAS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia are the world’s tallest twin structures since 1996 and are uniquely connected by a sky bridge. You are rewarded with views of the Malaysian skyline from the top of the PETRONAS towers, and the functional and foundational sky bridge is both an attraction and structural add.

Sunrise Kempinski Hotel

The Sunrise Kempinski Hotel is a modern 5-star hotel located in Beijing. It is spherical in shape and with its modern architectural design it is a site to at least to see, if not to stay in! According to the hotel website, “Sunrise Kempinski Hotel, Beijing embodies the shape of the rising sun and symbolises harmony, unity and infinity. The luxury hotel offers 302 guest-rooms and suites with magnificent views of Yanqi Lake, mountains and greenery, seven restaurants and bars… etc”.
