Avene Cleanance Mask | Review

I’m a French pharmacy girl at heart and one brand that I have loved for YEARS is Avène ❤️ I was introduced to this brand about 6-7 years back by my dermatologist and it’s the one skincare brand that has always been a part of my skincare routine, irrespective of good or bad skin days! Today’s post is a detailed Avene Cleanance Mask Review 🙂

To give you a little bit of background on my skin, I have dry/combination skin and I have been dealing with adult acne for almost 8 years now. And so, the first products that I tried by Avène were from their Cleanance range, which worked wonderfully for my skin.

Today I want to talk about the Avene Cleanance Mask, one of my all-time favourite products from this brand and one that I’ve been using for years because honestly, I think this is THE mask for solving all of your skin troubles! Let’s jump right into the review 🙂

The Avene Cleanance Mask is a 2-in-1 product, a mask + scrub that is targeted towards oily, blemish prone skin, however, don’t let the words ‘oily skin’ stop you from trying this mask if you have dry or combo skin. It is an AHA + BHA complex that works wonderfully at targeting skin blemishes and blocked pores.

Let’s start with the packaging – the mask comes housed in a 50ml plastic tube with a very simple and basic design. I personally like that it’s a tube packaging, because that means I can control how much product I squeeze out and also that I can use every last bit of product in the packaging. Secondly, I find squeeze tubes extremely travel friendly and so this is the mask that comes with me no matter where I’m going on holiday.

Coming on to the texture and scent – the Avene Cleanance mask is a white in colour and has a creamy texture, so it spreads beautifully on the skin and you don’t need very much product to get an even application. There are tiny micro-granules / biodegradable beads in this mask which work as the ‘scrub’ to help exfoliate the skin. However, these micro granules are not chunky, nor do they feel harsh on the skin.

As for scent, it has a very mild and pleasant fragrance. I personally quite enjoy it J

The other key ingredients in the Avene Cleanance Mask are:

  • Monolaurin: a chemical that is derived from lauric acid and is best known for its anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties. It helps to regulate oil production, whilst soothing, moisturising and softening the skin.

  • Kaolin: to help absorb excess sebum and mattify skin

  • 4% Glycolic Acid (AHA) + 0.2% Salicylic Acid (BHA): to gently unclog pores, exfoliate the skin and help smooth out skin texture.

  • Cetromonium Bromure: helps to cleanse and purify skin. In skincare, this ingredient is used to target acne and heal problem skin by inhibiting the growth of microorganisms.

  • Zinc Gluconate: used frequently as a treatment for acne, Zinc Gluconate helps to reduce redness and soothes irritation caused by acne. It also speeds up wound healing and prevents acne scarring.

My Experience with the Avene Cleanance Mask:

I love this product! Avène claims that ‘This 3-in-1 clarifying clay mask turns into a scrub to deeply cleanse, exfoliate pores, absorb oil and visibly reduce the appearance of skin blemishes’ and well, I think all of those claims are true.

I use this mask at least once a week (twice if my skin is breaking out) and spread an even, thick layer of this on my face and neck. I let the mask sit for about 8-10 minutes before I wet my fingertips with some lukewarm water and start to gently exfoliate and scrub my skin by massaging my skin in circular motions. I scrub my skin for about a minute before washing my face with cold water.

Note: If you have sensitive skin or if you are using aha/bha for the first time, this mask might tingle a little bit, but do not let that scare you. Maybe keep the mask on for only 5 minutes before you rinse it off.

The result is always fresh, clean, GLOWING skin! Honestly, this mask has worked wonders at improving the overall texture of my skin. I have noticed that this mask leaves my skin feeling smooth and brighter. I love using it the night before an important meeting or event because skincare and makeup goes on so smoothly after I’ve used this mask.

I would also like to point out that this mask does not feel drying or tight on the skin, no matter how long you leave it on for.

You can also use the Avene Cleanance Mask as a spot treatment. So apply a thin layer of the mask on your trouble areas – active breakouts, T-zone or on the jawline and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before you wash it off.

I would highly recommend this mask if you have acne prone skin, enlarged pores or uneven skin texture. Oily skin types will surely love this mask, but as someone who has dry/combo skin, I am in love with it too… so I feel ALL SKIN TYPES can benefit from this mask. Just remember to use a good SPF as acids (aha/bha) can make your skin sensitive to the sun.
