Zermatt: A Slice of Swiss Paradise
Zermatt was our third stop during our Swiss holiday, and it instantly stole our hearts. Nestled in the Swiss Alps, this car-free village is a breathtaking blend of natural beauty and alpine charm. The towering Matterhorn stands as an awe-inspiring backdrop, creating a picturesque setting at every turn. Whether you’re an adventure enthusiast, a photography lover, or simply someone seeking tranquility, Zermatt offers something for everyone.
Location: Convenience at Its Best

Hotel Testa Grigia boasts one of the best locations in Zermatt. Just a five-minute walk from the train station, it is incredibly accessible, even with luggage in tow. The hotel is also close to the Gornergrat Railway station, making it an excellent base for those planning an excursion to the iconic Gornergrat viewpoint. Additionally, it’s just steps away from Coop, a well-stocked grocery store, and several vantage points offering spectacular views of the Matterhorn.
Check-In: Smooth and Efficient
Upon arrival, check-in was a breeze. The staff was welcoming, efficient, and provided all the necessary details about our stay within minutes. After a long travel day, the seamless check-in process was much appreciated.
The Room: A Cozy Alpine Retreat

We stayed in the Superior Double Room with a private deck that offered an incredible, unobstructed view of the Matterhorn. The room itself was spacious, tastefully decorated, and exuded a cozy alpine charm. The bed was plush and comfortable, ensuring restful nights after days of exploring. A standout feature was the in-room coffee machine, which brewed excellent coffee. Sitting on the deck, sipping a fresh cup, and marvelling at the Matterhorn in all its glory was an experience we won’t ever forget.

The rooms at Hotel Testa Grigia embody the authentic charm of Zermatt. They offer a comfortable seating area and a desk, along with modern amenities such as free WiFi, a flat-screen TV, and coffee and tea-making facilities with a generous selection of teas. Designed with understated elegance, the rooms feature light-coloured natural wood furniture and thoughtfully chosen textiles and carpets that add a warm and inviting touch. The ambiance is both cozy and refined, making guests feel instantly at home.
Breakfast: A Delightful Start to the Day

Breakfast at Hotel Testa Grigia did not disappoint. The spread was a classic continental selection, featuring freshly baked croissants, boiled eggs, a variety of cold cuts, and an assortment of cheeses. A pleasant surprise awaited us in the form of canned yet deliciously sweet fruits like lychee and grapes—an unexpected but delightful addition to the meal. It was the perfect way to fuel up before a day of exploring.
