Where to Stay in Melbourne – Atlantis Hotel | Review

With an artistic city vibe, a legendary coffee culture, remarkable food scene, and a thrilling premier sporting schedule all through the year Melbourne is rightly called as the cultural capital of Australia.

And if that’s not enough this chic capital of the south-eastern state of Victoria is also a gateway to the world renowned Great Ocean Road.

We stayed in Melbourne for 4 days at the Atlantis Hotel and even though it was an unconventional choice, here’s why we chose to stay here. Read on to see if it met our expectations or not 🙂

To begin with, the most cost effective and hassle-free way to commute to and from the Melbourne Tullamarine or Avalon airport is by taking the SkyBus  and it drops you right at the Southern cross station which is just a stone throw away from Atlantis Hotel, which made our everyday commute a breeze. *

We were also able to make swift day trips to Brighton and Geelong (from where we hired a car for our self-drive trip to the Great Ocean Road) through Southern cross station.

Atlantis might not be right in the center of all the action in terms of hot tourist spots, but Melbourne is served well by its public transport system and by virtue it is such a walkable city that none of the tourist attractions seemed to be too far away.

Coming on to the hotel, the staff was friendly and polite… the front desk officer welcomed us with a lot of warmth and was kind enough to allow us an early check in upon our arrival.

We had booked the Executive Queen Suite and it was the biggest room we stayed at while in Australia. Our room was very basic in terms of design and décor, but it was extremely comfortable with a decent sized bed and super comfy, neat bedding. The room also had a comfy sofa and a desk in the corner. Honestly, we loved the large size of the room as it gave us so much space to walk around and store our large suitcases with ease.

Apart from that, the room also had a wardrobe with full length mirrors, a safe, an ironing table and iron and a kettle to make tea/coffee in the room.

The bathroom was a very good size and impeccably clean. There was a bath tub and we also had all the basic toiletries that we could need (something we always appreciate) displayed in the bathroom.

We had opted for a free breakfast package and found it to be very basic. The spread was nothing fancy and we ended up having the usual scrambled eggs, sausages, bread and coffee every morning. The food however tasted good, so nothing to complain about.

The hotel also has an indoor pool and gym, but we didn’t use either of the two, so can’t really comment on that. There’s the option for Paid private parking on-site as well, so that’s a big plus if you’re driving here in your own car. The area is also served by decent eating joints and regular international food chains and we did end up having some really good Pho at a nearby Vietnamese food joint and Chicken Katsu at Japanese Restaurant. Not just that, one of the things we loved the most was that there is a huge Chemist Warehouse at walking distance from the hotel! 🙂

To wrap up this review, I’d like to say that Atlantis Hotel did live up to our expectations – we really appreciated how tidy the rooms and the other spaces were, how friendly and welcoming the staff was and also, the location was an absolute winner for us. We found Atlantis to be a very affordable option and wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again if we were to visit Melbourne again.

Great review on the Atlantis Hotel. It sure sounds like a great hotel for outsiders to stop by. I would love to visit this hotel, but thankfully, I have cousins residing there so even if I do visit Melbourne any time, I’ll never experience this amazing hotel. (:
