Top 10 Things To Do In Budapest

Top 10 Things To Do In Budapest

Situated on the banks of Danube river, the city of Budapest is a traveller’s delight. The confluence of cultures over the years has given Budapest a distinct identity, especially when it comes to its architecture and cuisine.

We spent around 48 hours in this lovely city and wish we could have stayed here for longer. Nonetheless, we enjoyed every second of our stay and thought why not share with all of you the things and places we explored on our short (but sweet!) trip… so in this post we will be talking about the Top 10 Things To Do In Budapest if you also only have 48 hours in this magical city! Let’s jump right in 🙂

*Don’t forget to check out our Budapest Vlog at the end of the post 🙂

1. A Quick Guided Tour of the City

When in a new city, we love to go on a walking tour on the very first day to get acquainted with the city, but in Budapest, we tried something different to get our bearings – a Tuk Tuk Ride of the city! It’s not only fun and informative,  you’ll also surely attract a lot of attention. You can read about it in depth HERE.

2. Places to Check out some Majestic Views

Views from Gellert Hill, Budapest

Budapest is crowned with several outstanding architectures and the best way to marvel at them is by finding the right vantage points. One such place is the Gellert Hill on the Buda side. The Fisherman’s Bastion in itself is a great architectural wonder and we recommend spending plenty of time here… the best part is the view of the city from here! A somewhat lesser-known vantage point is from Garden of Philosophy, kind of a hidden gem if you ask us 🙂

3. Treat Your Taste Buds

When in Budapest, treat yourself with some great Hungarian street food. We tried out some of its very famous local cuisines like Langos, Goulash and Kurtoskalacs.

This is an absolute must-do! However, if you are short on time, then you can go for a guided tour of the theatre which also comes with an option of catching a glimpse of a performance 🙂

9. Pay Your Respects at The Shoes on the Danube Bank Memorial

Shoes on the Danube Bank Memorial

Honestly, we could have spent hours just sitting here and thinking. This place was conceived by Can Togay, a film director, who worked with a sculptor named Gyula Pauer to create this memorial on the east bank of the Danube to honour people that were killed in Budapest during the Second World War.

10. Stroll on the Chain Bridge

Last, but not the least, conclude your trip with a late-night stroll at the Széchenyi Bridge, also known as the chain bridge.
