La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser| Review

A few months ago I mentioned that I was having a lot of trouble with my skin –  I was going through a very bad phase of adult acne and it was probably the worst my skin has ever been, and so I was trying a whole new skincare routine. Well, it’s been about 4-5 months and as of today my skin has almost healed and is doing so much better (touch wood!) and so I thought I would share with you a product that really helped me treat my adult acne.

When it comes to skincare, the first and most important thing for me is always cleansing. My dermatologist suggested a few skincare products by La Roche Posay and one of them was the Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel and that’s the product I’ll be talking about today.

My Skin Type– I have combination skin, an oily T-zone and some dry patches around my nose and cheeks. My skin is also sensitive and (highly) acne prone, so I’m always on the fence about changing up my skincare products.

Having said that, I was very confident about adding the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser to my routine as I was already using the Effaclar Duo + which was working wonders for my skin. Read my review HERE.

I had also heard such great things about this cleanser from a friend, so I finally decided to give it a try and hoped it was going to be a magic product that was going to change my skin and it did!

The La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser is especially aimed at those with oily and sensitive skin. Here’s what the Company has to say:
EFFACLAR Gel gently purifies the skin thanks to cleansing agents selected to respect sensitive skin. It eliminates impurities and excess sebum while leaving the skin clean and fresh. With soothing, anti-irritant La Roche-Posay thermal spring water.

Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel is essentially alcohol-free gel face wash. The packaging of this product is so clean and simple – I have the  125ml squeezy tube that comes with a flip cap. To be honest, I find the packaging very well thought out because it’s so good for travelling.

The texture is not too liquidy nor too thick. It is also soap-free, colourant-free and free of Parabens. Not just that, it also has a pH of 5.5 which means that it will not suck out moisture from within your skin. Instead, it leaves the skin feeling squeaky clean, yet not parched.

Coming on to the smell, it has a very fresh and mild fragrance (you might not even detect it!) and so great for those who do not enjoy fragranced skincare.

I usually use this at night-time and I squeeze out a pea-size amount into my palm and apply directly to my damp face. The face wash does lather, but if you are using it like me, i.e. on damp skin and not wet skin, then it doesn’t lather too much. I massage it gently into my skin using my fingertips for about a minute and then wash it off with water.

Do I recommend La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel?

Yes! What I love about the Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel is how light-weight the texture is and how well it deep cleanses my skin within seconds, without leaving my skin feeling dry or itchy. I’ve seen a remarkable difference in the overall texture of my skin and I love how smooth and acne-free it is.

I think this will be perfect for both oily as well as dry skin people. It also has a very mild and pleasant fragrance, nothing that would bother anyone. You do not need a lot of product, I usually use a pea-size amount for my entire face, so the tube is going to last you a while.

Have you ever tried the Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel or any other product by La Roche Posay? Lave me a comment telling me your experience with them and if you have any holy grail skincare products for battling acne and blemishes 🙂
