Easy Mint Tea Recipe

Easy Mint Tea Recipe

“Tea is to the body as music is to the soul.”
~ Earlene Grey

My idea of a perfect summer afternoon at the moment in Mumbai includes a tall glass of Iced Mint Tea in one hand and a book in another, so I thought why not share with you how easy it is to make yourself an Iced Mint Tea at home!

I think it is the flavour and the menthol aroma of mint leaves that makes this one of my absolute favourite drinks not just for a hot summer day, but even on those cold winter nights when I can use the same ingredients to make myself a cup of piping hot Mint Tea!

This recipe is caffeine-free and can be easily adapted to your taste, meaning that you can have it hot or cold; sweetened or unsweetened as well as with and without lemon.

Preparation Time: 10-15 minutes

Serves: 3 - 4

Ingredients

  • 1 ltr Hot Water
  • 3 Black Tea bags
  • Fresh Mint Leaves (you can also use dried mint – 2 tbsp)
  • 2 tbsp Sugar or Honey (optional)
  • Lemon juice (optional)
  • Ice Cubes

Method

  • In a pan bring the water to a boil and turn off the heat. Then pour it into a big jug.
  • Add the black tea bags to the jug of hot water along with a few fresh mint leaves (or dry mint).
  • Cover the jug and let the tea steep for about 10-12 minutes before you remove the tea bags.
  • Next put the jug in the refrigerator to cool for a few minutes (if you want the Iced Mint Tea version).
  • Strain the tea mixture into glasses so that you don’t have any soaked mint leaves in the glass.
  • Stir in the sugar (preferably caster sugar) at this point and also add in the lemon juice along with some fresh mint leaves.
  • Your Mint Tea is now ready to serve…add in a few ice cubes on top and drizzle some honey if you fancy!
