TSIM – Europe Sim Card Review

TSIM – Europe Sim Card Review

For us travelling abroad is a life enriching experience and we love to share it with our friends and family on the go, be it calling them back home and letting them know about our whereabouts or video calling to show them the marvels of the world, a mobile phone with an adequate data plan always comes in handy.

Now there are several ways one can stay connected while travelling:

  1. Get an international roaming pack on your native mobile number – this is a fairly dependable option. You know beforehand how much you are going to be charged and how much data you have for consumption. More often than not, this option has worked just fine for us while travelling. The only issue here is that it is pretty expensive.
  2. Get a local sim – If you are travelling to just one destination this might be a good option to consider, but in case you are travelling to multiple countries in Europe it will become cumbersome. We personally don’t like this option even if we are visiting just one country as we like to call back home as soon as we land in the destination country, which in this case isn’t possible.
  3. Using free Wi-Fi – A lot of hotels, café and now even cities provide free Wi-Fi and it’s just great because it free and fast enough to look into maps, make video calls and sometimes even put Instagram posts, but it is not entirely dependable or secure.
  4. Buying an international sim from your home country – This is by far the best option (in our opinion) as the sim gets activated as soon as you land in the foreign/destination country. This means that you already have the international number with you which you can share with your family and friends beforehand. Another benefit is that there are multiple data plans to choose from based on to requirement and budget and above all it is far more economical than option 1 and 2 and far more reliable and secure than option 3.

For our last trip to Europe we chose to use TSIM’s Europe Sim Card and were pretty amazed by its offering. They have around 5 options to choose from; we went for the – up to 12 GB and 360 mins option, which is currently priced at ₹3,988.99 including GST with a validity of 30 days.

We were in Europe for 16 days and covered 4 countries and even after being constantly on Google Maps, Instagram and Facebook the high-speed data didn’t get exhausted.

TSIM’s Unlimited European SIM card provides coverage in 53 European countries with a single UK number. You can share this number beforehand with your friends and family and they can call you on this number, but it is always far more economical if you make the calls back home.

There is a feature called Multi Local Capability, which basically gives you a local number in most of countries you visit. This is a feature which we came across for the first time. So apart from the single UK number which you receive while purchasing the sim card you also get a local number (you get informed via SMS) as soon as you enter in a new country. So what is the use of it? Well the only benefit which we could think of is that if you have to give your number to a local, for instance a local tour company or a restaurant where you want to make a reservation it would be economical for them to call you on a local number instead of calling you on the UK number.

Coming back to more simpler offerings – obviously the incoming calls and SMS are free, you get 12 GB of high speed data in most of the countries and 360 mins of talk time. You can also use hotspot and use the data on other devices, for us this was a great feature as we tend to work on our articles on our notebook while travelling between countries in a train.

TSIM currently offers free home delivery of the sim card which comes in a very classy card holder and SIM tray open pin (very thoughtful) and also gives you small travel gift with every purchase which you can choose. We chose a selfie stick 🙂

Now let’s talk about our overall experience with the TSIM Europe SIM card connectivity and usage. The sim card comes with a handy note (don’t lose it – or take a picture of it) which basically explains how to receive the APN settings. We were expecting it to happen automatically but it didn’t. However, once we followed the instructions on the card it worked perfectly.

As mentioned above we visited four countries, namely, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and France. Our experience in terms of connectivity was very good in all the countries except The Netherlands. It was surprising because it worked just fine in some of the remotest areas in Germany and even on trains.

Well we could have called/ emailed the support to get the problem fixed but let’s be realistic, who wants to get stuck with support calls while on a vacation? Thankfully we had another number on international roaming and didn’t have any emergency to get data to be working on the TSIM number. Please note that the voice calling was working just fine – the problem was only with data and hence instead of calling support we decided to fiddle with the settings while we were transferring from the Netherlands to Belgium on a train as we had a lot of time on our hands during the transit.

So, we tried a few things but what eventually fixed the issue was when we changed setting of the network mode on our Samsung S9 from Auto Connect to 3G Only.

Well that was the only bump we faced on an otherwise very smooth experience with TSIM. As mentioned above, it was very convenient to receive the SIM at our door step and the fact that we could provide our contact details to our friends and family beforehand. And last but not the least, based on our requirements, when we compared between international roaming packs provided by our mobile network provider and TSIM’s prepaid international plans, we found TSIM to be far more economical.
