Tips to Create a Cozy (Designer Look) Bedroom

Tips to Create a Cozy (Designer Look) Bedroom

Who doesn’t want their space to have that designer ‘straight out of a magazine page’ look? But does it always have to be super expensive? The answer is no. If you follow me on Social Media (which I’d love for you to) you will know we recently bought our first home 🙂 I chose to not hire an interior designer as I wanted my space to be a true reflection of my taste and personality… so I’ve been styling our home on a budget. My vision is to have a minimal, aesthetically pleasing home that looks designer. I recently got many requests to share styling tips for a cozy bedroom vibe, so today I wanted to share with you a few simple tips to create a cozy designer looking bedroom on a budget:⁣⁣⁣

Choose a Colour Palette

Your colour choices will play a very big role in the overall look and feel of your space, be that neutral or colourful. In my case, I have chosen a neutral colour palette to bring in some warmth and feeling of tranquility. My aesthetics for this space was minimal, calm, with a touch of wabi-sabi.

Focus on Layering

If you ever look closely at designer bedrooms, you’ll notice that they put a lot of emphasis on how a bed is styled, aka LAYERED. In simple words, layering a bed is all about incorporating textures, patterns and tones. For an everyday cozy bedroom (like mine featured here) I choose to put minimal layers on the bed – a flat bedsheet, a comforter/duvet and lots of pillows. My secret is a LOT of pillows of varying sizes! If you want to go a step further, feel free to add in a throw blanket over the duvet to create an additional layer.

Accessorise/ Create Visual Interest

Layering your bed will add lots of interest, but to get a designer looking bedroom you must add some visual interest with decor. When accessorising a bedroom, don’t only think about aesthetics, but also keep in mind functionality. A tray on a bedside table helps to keep the bedroom clutter-free. Think of adding mood lighting – a bedside table lamp or a wall sconce (like in my bedroom) to create a warm and welcoming ambiance. Another great way to add visual interest is by adding natural elements to your room – greenery (real or faux) or even dried grass like the pampas on my bedside.

Splurge vs Save

Know where to splurge and where to save money. I admit that bedding can cost a lot of money, but you can get great quality bedding for much cheaper… you just have to search 🙂 My advice would be to splurge on your sheets and comforter/duvet and to save money in accessories, for example throw pillows/covers.

My last tips to create a cozy bedroom would be to add your own personal touch and make your bedroom look lived in 🙂 Two things I love in this bedroom setting are – this seersucker bedsheet set that creates a cozy vibe in my bedroom because its natural imperfections make the bedroom look inviting and lived in… and the second, the pampas grass that brings in a touch of wild nature. I hope you found this article helpful 🙂
