Ruby’s Organics Lipstick and Kohl Pencil | Review

I’m slowly but surely dipping my toes in the world of Clean Beauty and Ruby’s Organics has been one brand that’s been on my wish-list for a very long time.

Thanks to my job, I was recently sent some products by the brand and I’m so grateful for that. So let’s jump right in and see what I think of them! It’s been only a couple of days that I received them, so treat this as my first impressions, if you may 🙂

Ruby’s Organics Lipstick in #017 and Kohl Pencil in Black

First up, let’s talk a little about the Brand – Ruby’s Organic is India’s first organic makeup brand and pride themselves in creating vegan, organic, cruelty-free products that are also paraben and alcohol free. The company sources their ingredients locally and believes in giving back to the society by creating more jobs for women in rural areas…how wonderful is that?!

What drew me the most to this brand was their philosophy of bringing out your natural beauty and highlighting your features instead of masking your skin. They are proud to create makeup that have ingredients to benefit your skin …they call it ‘skincare at the core tinted with mineral colours.’

Let’s get talking about the products now – the first thing I received was the Ruby’s Organics Lipstick Nuddy #017, which is a gorgeous reddish nude colour with a hint of brown undertone. I can’t seem to figure out the name for this specific shade because it doesn’t say it anywhere on the packaging, plus their website has shade names and not numbers…so I found that really confusing.

To open the lipstick, you need to push down on the top part of the packaging where their branding is placed.

The pigmentation is quite good, but I find that it takes a few swipes to glide on smoothly, so I tend to rub it on the back of my hand a few times to warm up the lipstick bullet. The shade 017 I is perfect for my skin tone 🙂

Ruby’s Organics Lipstick – Ingredients

Ruby’s Organics says that their lipsticks are unique because they work like a lip balm while giving you the pigmentation of a lipstick…I’m not sure about that claim yet, but I’ll wear it for longer and let you know my thoughts. Follow me on Instagram if you aren’t already to stay posted on the updates! These lipsticks have has a semi-matte finish, but feels quite comfortable on the lips, thanks to the shea butter, castor and almond oil in the ingredients. I would like to point out that the lipstick is not smudge or transfer proof, so if you’re someone who doesn’t like to keep reapplying their lipstick, this one might not be the one for you 🙂 Also, they have a scent that I can’t quite explain – it almost smells like scented wax to me. As for price, you get 3.7 gms of product for Rs. 990/-

The second product was the Ruby’s Organics Smoked Kohl Eye-pencil in Black. You can use this as a kajal pencil or even as a brow filler. I don’t use Kajal pencils in my waterline, but I did try this one out to tight-line and it didn’t tug or pull my skin at all. As for using this as a brow filler, black is too dark for me to fill in my brows, so I won’t be using it for that either. I loved the formula of this pencil – very buttery and pigmented! It is a twist up pencil with a sponge applicator on the other end. But somehow mine seems to be a faulty piece/broken because i can’t open the sponge applicator on the other end.

Ruby’s Organics Smoked Kohl Eye Pencil – Ingredients

You get 0.35 gms of product and it costs Rs. 650/- . I know that’s quite pricey, but I think it will be a good one to try if you have sensitive eyes. The formula does not have any silicone, alcohol or harsh chemicals in it and the pigment comes from Vegetable Carbon Black that is acquired by steam activation of carbonised vegetable material.

I’m thinking of trying to create a smokey eye look using this kohl pencil because it’s so buttery smooth, I think it’ll work well as an eyeshadow base as well 😋

All in all, both products were good, but sadly neither blew me away. I know Ruby’s Organics products are quite expensive and so might not fit into everyone’s budget. There are vegan brands in the Indian market now that are offering more affordable makeup, so let me know if you would like me to try and review a few others 🙂

Have you tried anything by Ruby’s Organics? Let me know what are your favourite or even wish-list products by the brand. I might try their cream blushes in the future 🙂
