Sydney is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities we have ever visited, and we would love to keep visiting it again and again. Having said that, Sydney has also been the city where we took forever to finalise a hotel.
Why so? Well, first of all, Sydney is a big city with tourist’s attractions scattered all around the city as against majority European cities where most of the attractions are usually near the city centre. So, it was really challenging for us to zero down on an area which would be sort of equidistant from all the major tourist attractions.
Secondly, the hotel prices are pretty steep. Even the otherwise budget chain hotels are rather expensive which made us research extra and dig out more and more options for the final comparison.
Well after a good amount of scanning and rejecting options we finally settled for Quest at Potts Point and here is the detailed review of our stay : –
Location
The hotel is situated in Potts Point, a rather wealthy area… but ironically, Darlinghurst Road, the street which runs parallel to the street (on which the Hotel is situated) is a rather colourful area, infamous for its numerous Strip clubs, back packer hostels and drunkards roaming around at night. We were privy to this information before we booked the hotel, so before booking we checked with a few friends who live in Sydney and they confirmed that it was a good area to stay in. To be really truthful, it didn’t feel unsafe at all while we were there… We even ventured out late in the night and it never felt unsafe. Also, every time we were out late in the night, we always saw there were a few cops doing rounds which gave us extra confidence about the area. That apart, the hotel is really close to King’s Cross station which makes it extremely easy to connect to anywhere you want to go as King’s Cross is actually like a transportation hub of the city.
There is a Coles supermarket nearby, which again was a big plus as Quest is an apartment hotel and we bought things like eggs, breads, milk and cooked our own breakfast on almost all days.
Comfort
The rooms at Quest Potts Point are small, but not match box small. There is enough space for two people to store their luggage neatly under the reading table and walk around comfortably. It has a nice, bright and airy feel to it, especially because of the neat white and glass décor. The bed is comfy and the bathroom is basic but well equipped with upmarket toiletries. The kitchenette has all the basic utensils and cutleries.
The staff is very polite and unlike a lot of other apart hotels the room is dressed every day.
The best part of the hotel is the terrace. We were lucky to have the room on the top floor which made accessing the Terrace super easy. It’s a great place to enjoy your morning cup of coffee with an awesome view of the Sydney Skyline.
The hotel also has a washing machine in the basement and coffee machine at the reception, we did not use either of the two so can’t really comment on it.
Value for Money
Sydney is an expensive city… food is expensive, taxi rates are high and so are the room tariffs. That being said, we felt Quest Hotel was good value for money. It is not an inexpensive property, but at the same time it didn’t really burn a hole in our pocket. We were able to save up on a few meals by using the kitchenette and were able to use the public transport effectively, hence didn’t end up spending above our overall budget.
As mentioned earlier we would love to come back to Sydney someday soon and explore a lot more of this lovely city. And when we do plan to come back to Sydney, I am sure we would have one lesser task to plan for as we already know where we will be staying again! ❤️
Lovely post! Quest certainly looks like a great place to stay! Comfort and adventure, all in one💖. I’ve never been to Sydney but it looks like a fantastic place to visit!
