Thinking of heading for a holiday to beat the heat? Well, you’re in the right place – look no further and head to Ooty!
As the temperature is rising in Mumbai, we are considering going someplace with cooler temperature and serene landscapes. What makes Ooty our favourite destination? The pleasant weather to begin with, the fact that there is so much to explore and do outdoors, plus the amazing hotels that make it such a sought-after holiday destination.
Here’s a look at some of the fun things that you can do while in Ooty:
- Enjoy in The Lap of Mother Nature – Being nature lovers, one of the things that attracts us the most are the mesmerizing lakes in Ooty. Ooty lake, emerald lake and avalanche lake are popular for fishing and today they attract hordes of tourists who like to go boating in the lake and also cycle by the shore. You can also go trekking, camping and rafting, but if you like simpler things, just plan an afternoon picnic and maybe catch a beautiful sunset 🙂 Alternatively, Ooty also has a very good hiking/trekking scene. The queen of hills seems to be a trekkers paradise! Doddabetta Peak offers stunning views and is amongst south India’s highest peaks. Another fun element here is the Telescope house on this peak. Want a bird’s eye view of the surrounding areas, head to Needle View Hillpoint. They say this is where you can witness the clouds meeting the hills!
- Soak in The Architectural Charms – Ooty has some stunning old churches, like the St. Stephen’s Church. If you’re a lover of architecture, then you must visit this place – beautifully painted glass windows, plaques from the colonial era and wooden elephants from Tipu Sultan’s palace will definitely take you back in time and remember history. And while you are out exploring, don’t forget to visit the Stone house – one of Ooty’s oldest buildings from the British empire.
- Explore The Local Markets – Go shopping! Ooty is really famous for its tea and confectionery. If you have a sweet tooth, try out the fudge, truffles, marshmallows and homemade chocolates at the King Star Confectionery. Another amazing confectionery special in Ooty is Varkey –a kind of biscuit made from rava, rice, wheat flour, semolina, ghee, sugar, water and salt. You can choose either the baked version or the deep fried one….yummmm!
- Romance With Tea! – Set the bubbly champagne aside and brew romance with ‘tea for two’! The tea gardens in Ooty are a tea lovers paradise. Head on over to the Tea museum and learn more about the different varieties of tea and their origin.
- Relax and Unwind – Sometimes the best itinerary on a holiday is to not have one J We love the idea of simply unwinding at a resort, and when it comes to resort living, hotels in Ooty are second to none. Our favourite is Glyngarth Resort. Nestled in hills of Nilgiris, this resort offers breath-taking views of the mountains and has an amazing infinity pool which just makes your stay absolutely magical.
We hope we’ve convinced you to pack your bags and head to this magical destination – Ooty truly offers you the perfect ambiance and touristy opportunities to relax and unwind!
