If you are reading this article there are good chances that you are currently planning your trip to Hong Kong and we are almost certain that Disney Land would probably be right at the top of your “Things to do in Hong Kong” list.
Well, it was right at the top of our list too. But during our research, we found out that the world-famous amusement park is going through some sort of a facelift due to which the Fireworks show has been discontinued since January this year. Well that was the first blow, and since we are not too much into joy rides (and though the whole idea of watching over-sized Disney characters and colorful parades does sound like fun) we thought of exploring different options, and Ocean Park was an obvious second choice, so we started to look into what Ocean Park was all about. A couple of minutes into our research we came to know that there are Pandas in Ocean Park and honestly, we were pretty much sold there and then!
But it doesn’t end at that, it was as if the universe was conspiring for us to not go to Disneyland… while booking our tickets to Hong Kong through Cathay Pacific we came across this awesome Promotional Giveaway which entitled us two free passes to Ocean Park…Yes, that just sealed the deal! Since we only had a limited number of days we couldn’t have fit both Disneyland and Ocean Park, so we chose Ocean Park over Disney Land.
Did we regret it? Absolutely not, it was great fun, we got to see Pandas, Red Pandas, Koala Bears and Kangaroos, yes you read it right! Koalas and Kangaroos too, and we must say the animals looked very happy. The staff seemed to be really in love with these guys and we could see they take good care of them.
We also enjoyed a cable car ride, saw a dolphin show, enjoyed some really great food, roamed around the Old Hong Kong style street…it was amazing! The best part was that we visited on a weekend, which apparently is super cool at Ocean Park as they host some great live music and performances at the Lakeside. We didn’t know about the last part, but it was such a pleasant bonus 🙂
You can check out details about Ocean Park here and plan your visit.
So yes, we skipped Disney Land this time, but there’s a lot more to do in Hong Kong and we have promised ourselves to be back soon and this time around visiting Disney Land will be on the top of our “Things To Do in HK” again ❤️
Just to shed some light on the expansion plans at Disney Land – the Sleeping Beauty Castle has been officially shut (with effect from January 1, 2018), but what we have heard is that it is being renovated into a much grander castle. What’s most exciting is that soon there will be a ‘MARVEL’ themed area!!! Who else is excited?!
